Belize District:

Ambergris Caye 

San Pedro Town

Ambergris Caye is Belize's largest island (twenty five miles in length). Approximately 35 miles by boat or plane from Belize City, Ambergris has an engaging laid-back atmosphere. The reef is just east of the main town of San Pedro. The white sand streets of San Pedro welcome barefoot pedestrians as well as bicycles and golf carts. There are a host of excursions offered to diving and snorkeling spots and to other cayes in the region, including to Blue Hole, Half Moon Caye and Turneffe Islands, the only three coral atolls in the western hemisphere.

Belize City

Belize City is a ramshackle, colorful Caribbean city of 60,000 citizens. It was Belize's former capital and is the country's largest city. Belize City is the transport and commercial hub of the country. Belize is home to the only manually operated swing bridge in the Americas. The bridge serves as the central navigational landmark in the city. Historic stops of interest include the Baron Bliss Lighthouse, which features the tomb of one-time patron Baron Bliss of Portugal, St. John’s Cathedral, the Coastal Zone Museum, and the Marine Museum.

Burrell Boom

El Chiclero Inn Located on mainland Belize in the village of Burrell Boom. Caye Caulker

About 12 miles from the mainland, Caye Caulker is 4.75 miles long and only about 700 yards wide at its widest point. Mangroves cover much of the shore and coconut palms provide shade. The reef is just a short boat ride from the eastern shore and offers some of the world's most exciting diving, snorkeling and fishing. Underwater visibility can be an astonishing 60m and the coral and tropical fish are wonderful.

Cayo District:

Set on the banks of the Macal River with an area of 2061 square miles is the fast growing Cayo District. This district has a population of 40,000, the majority of which are Spanish speaking Mestizos and Maya Indians and a variety of Creoles,Garifunas, East Indians, Chinese, Lebanese and Mennonites. One fourth of the district's population resides in Belmopan, Santa Elena and San Ignacio, while the rest live in small villages or on farms. Cayo is home to the largest Maya site of Caracol, and the most photographed ruin of Xunantunich. Cayo also offers some of the best canoeing, river rafting, hiking, horseback riding and mountain biking in Belize.

Hopkins Village & Vicinity

A lazy seaside fishing village located in the Stann Creek District. Garifuna fishermen still carve dugout canoes and weave their own nets. The village is located just 8 miles south of Dangriga off the Southern Highway on the way to Placencia. The Garifuna migrated to Belize from the Bay Islands of Honduras in 1802. The Garifuna are descendants of Carib peoples of the Lesser Antilles and of Africans who had escaped from slavery. The Garifuna resisted British and French colonialism in the Lesser Antilles until they were defeated by the British in 1796 and resettled in the Bay Islands off the north coast of Honduras. From there they migrated to the southern part of present-day Belize.

Placencia Peninsula:

Placencia Peninsula is a 16 mile long, narrow peninsula in Southern Belize. It has the longest sand beaches in Belize. The peninsula is located aproximately 100 miles south of Belize City and 50 miles from Dangriga, Stann Creek District. The main attractions are the beaches, watersports, fishing, bird and manatee watching, overnight camping on remote cayes, and excursions to jungle rivers and the Cockscomb Basin Wildlife Sanctuary. The latter is home to jaguars, pumas, ocelots, margays, agoutis, anteaters, armadillos and boa constrictors.

Placencia Village

Placencia Village, a laid-back fishing village and casual resort, is perched at the southern tip of the long, narrow, Placencia Peninsula in Southern Belize. Until 1986, when the Placencia Peninsula dirt road was constructed, Placencia Village could only be reached by boat. The main street was a single concrete sidewalk running through the village, built for wheel-barrowing fish about the village without fighting the sand. It still serves as one of the the main arteries of life in town.
